| COUPLING INSPECTION | ||
| Couplings are removed from the sucker rod, tagged with customer information, then taken into the coupling room. First couplings are put into a shaker, where they are tumbled with solvent and specially shaped granite. Next, they are placed into a steam cleaner and washed thoroughly. After the couplings are clean and dry, they are positioned on an aluminum shooting rod where they get pulsed 3 times with at least 3 kilo amps of DC current. Once the coupling has become magnetized, it is rolled in iron powder. The iron powder is attracted to the coupling and reveals any defects in the surface or interior of the coupling. The couplings are then cleaned and gauged with a certified working gauge. The connection at the face is checked with a .0015” feeler gauge. Any face that is damaged or does not pass the makeup tolerance is then refaced with a grinder designed to resurface the face perpendicular to the thread axis of the coupling. Last the couplings are dipped in inhibitor and allowed to dry before they are boxed up and labeled with customer name, coupling size, type and count. | ||
